I never knew we had such potential to change the world. LeaderShape taught me that nothing is impossible.
I benefited a lot from the DISC assessment . Being an “I” type of person, I always positively influence the working environment. I understand myself as an inspirational pattern of person. With the description details provided to me, I truly find those descriptions fit in my personality. Setting our GAG related to our personal type enabled me to best understand what I really need to improve. The assessment test LeaderShape offered to me enabled me to better understand myself and improve me based on the suggestions.
Dream big and go ahead to stay in action! People’s power is unlimited, and there is nothing impossible for us to do. I saw so many fascinated vision posters and I even surprised by some of my friends’ visions, such as “One day we don’t have to study but only need to eat a ‘knowledge pill’. No more tests and textbooks needed, but this pill.” “There will be 100% participation rate of geek society. The GPA of girls who join Sorority is 3% higher than the average level.” I saw so many incredibly awesome ideas. I don’t doubt the possibility to fulfill those dreams as long as we stay in action. My vision is to create a host family program for international students so that they can find their “home” in the U.S. They will be exposed to customs they never tried before such an authentic Thanksgiving dinner with their host family. As international students and host families build strong relationships, their relationships will become lifelong friendships.
My dream is not impossible at all. After talking with our guest speaker Dr. Romano, the Vice Chancellor for Student Affair, she offered me the chance to have a meeting with her and all the international students who participated in 2015 LeaderShape. I also have already publicized my vision by talking to more than 20 people in LeaderShape. Moreover, we even had a big discussion with this topic, and so many people gave me suggestions on how to make my vision come true. Since I work in the International Student Advisory Committee (ISAC), I can start this program with the board members.
In addition, I had impressive memory of the three classes simulation game on Day 4. Sixty of us played roles in a real society with three different classes based on how much property we own: The rich, the middlemen and the poor. Rich people work harder and tried to use their intelligence to win the game while the poor classmen complained about the disparity and asked the rich to share their property. The game was really intense. People who held rich standing loved this game because they had more power, while the people who had less property hated this game because they thought it’s unfair. Each group in the end had different views about this game. Some people think the rich should help the poor by giving their property to the poor, while the others think the rich deserved to have better lives because they earned what they paid for with their hard works. In my opinion, the rich can only help the poor to some extent but can not obsoletely save the poor. The poor need to work hard themselves in order to have better lives. Based on the history and the theory of evolution, there is always a “win” and a “lose”. People who work harder will absolutely have higher chance to win the game.
Those are my takeaways from the 2015 LeaderShape. I believe that more and more people will make their vision come true. More and more people will utilize their outstanding personalities to benefit the whole society. More and more people will stay in action and make the impossible possible!
